Xinbo Ruan received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Nanjing, China, in 1991 and 1996, respectively.
In 1996, he joined the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Teaching and Research Division, NUAA, where he became a Professor in the College of Automation Engineering in 2002. From August to October 2007, he was a Research Fellow in the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China. From March 2008 to August 2011, he was also with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. He is the author or co-author of 15 books and more than 300 technical papers published in journals and conferences. His main research interests include resonant and soft-switching power converters, power converter topologies and control, grid-connected converters and system for renewable energy, modeling and stability of power converters, and envelop tracking power supply.
Prof. Ruan was a recipient of the Sustainable Energy Systems Technical Achievement Award from IEEE Power Electronics Society in 2022, the Delta Scholarship by the Delta Environment and Education Fund in 2003, and the Special Appointed Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education, China, in 2007. From 2005 to 2013, and since 2017 again, he serves as a Vice President of the China Power Supply Society. From 2014 to 2016, he served as a Vice Chair of the Technical Committee on Renewable Energy Systems within the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society. Currently, he serves as a Co-EIC for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, an Editor for IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics on Power Electronics, and an Associate for IEEE Open Journal of Industrial Electronics Society. He served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (2011-2021) and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems – II: Express Briefs (2016-2023). He was the General Chair of IPEMC-ECCE Asia 2020 and the General Secretary of IPEMC-ECCE Asia 2009, a Technical Program Committee Chair of the IEEE 7th Annual Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE2015), and a Tutorial Committee Chair of the IEEE 12th Annual Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE2020). He is an IEEE Fellow.

Samir Kouro received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from the Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria (UTFSM), Valparaiso, Chile, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. In 2007, he joined the Electronics Engineering Department, UTFSM, where he currently is full time academic. From 2019 to 2021 he served as Director of Innovation, and from 2021 to 2022 as General Director of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UTFSM. Between 2022 and 2023 he was awarded a Maria Zambrano Research Fellowship at Universidad de Sevilla, Seville, Spain. From 2009 to 2011 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Toronto Metropolitan University (former Ryerson University), Toronto, Canada. His research interests include power electronics and control for energy transition applications, such as renewable energy systems (photovoltaic and wind), green hydrogen production, and electro-mobility applications.

Dr. Kouro has directed over 45 R&D projects and is founding member and Principal Investigator of the Solar Energy Research Center (SERC-Chile), one of the national priority areas centers of excellence of Chile, and founding member and Titular Investigator of the Advanced Center of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (AC3E), one of the technology transfers centers of excellence in Chile. He has coauthored two books, 15 book chapters and over 250 refereed journal and conference papers. He has served as Special Session organizer and Chair of 30 special sessions in conferences and has been Guest Editor for 5 Special Sections in IEEE Journals and one for IET. Dr. Kouro has been Associate Editor of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine since 2022, and for the International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems of Elsevier in 2016-2017. Now he serves as Editor in Chief for the IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine (2025-2027).

Dr. Kouro has been elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2025, for contributions to power converter topologies and control in energy transition. He is also recipient of the 2025 Nagamori Award for contributions to theoretical and practical development of partial power converters used in energy transition applications. He has been included in the 2018 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list, received the 2018 IEEE-AIE Outstanding Engineer Award, the 2016 IEEE Industrial Electronics Bimal K. Bose Award for Industrial Electronics Applications in Energy Systems, the 2015 IEEE Industrial Electronics Society J. David Irwin Early Career Award, the 2012 IEEE Power Electronics Society Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award. He has received several best paper awards, including the 2025 Proceedings of the IEEE Best Paper Award, the 2022 Best Paper Award of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine, the 2019 Premium Award for the Best Paper in IET Power Applications journal, the 2015 2nd Prize Paper Award of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, the 2012 IEEE Industry Applications Magazine 1st prize Paper Award, the 2012 IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics Best Paper Award, the 2008 IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine Best Paper Award.

He has been participating actively in standardization committees in IEEE and IEC and is the convener of the IEC working group on modeling of renewable energy generation for power system dynamic analysis. In TMEIC as chief engineer he oversees the development of power converters for photovoltaic systems, energy storage and hydrogen.
